Mindy first joined VISIONS in the 2004 season as a staffer in our Trinidad program. That summer sparked a profound love for hands-on service work, a love that has guided her through every VISIONS summer since. Mindy considers herself a nomadic VISIONS soul. She has helped lead four different VISIONS locations each season since 2004: Trinidad, Australia, the British Virgin Islands, and Mississippi. 2008 is Mindy's third season as a program director, and she is thrilled to return to the culturally rich coastal town of North Gulfport, Mississippi. Mindy feels that Mississippi is a true fit for her; the state holds a special place in her heart as the place where her mother was born and raised.
Mindy grew up in a small town in southern Maine and moved to the Midwest in her teens. From the University of Nebraska she earned bachelor degrees in both sociology and secondary education with an emphasis on history and geography. She has been a secondary educator for seven years, having found a lively and exciting home as a 7th grade social studies teacher in Omaha, Nebraska!
As well as teaching and exploring the world with VISIONS, Mindy enjoys spending time laughing with family and friends. She especially loves a good book and is a big fan of Husker football, animals, traveling, staying fit, trying out new restaurants, and has recently become a karaoke fanatic. As Mindy looks forward she sees in her future more travel and more opportunities to experience as much of the world's cultures as she can!
