Much of our service in Montana is primarily carpentry-focused, although we always engage in non-construction projects as well. Our projects on the Northern Cheyenne reservation, where we have lived and worked off and on since 1992, are still in development and under consideration. Cheyenne Children Services, our oldest partner on the reservation, knows VISIONS well and so can be counted on to identify projects that specifically benefit the reservation community.

We know that much of our work will take place in Birney Village, a tiny settlement nestled on the Tongue River. It is a beloved, peaceful place - no stores or gas stations or commercial services of any kind, only the homes of the residents, the giant cottonwood trees and tall grasses growing along the slow-moving river and the Big Sky all around us. We may renovate a playground or two, build a shade structure or picnic tables, help renovate and maintain the old traditional pow wow arbor. There will be landscaping and possibly some work with little children. You also will assist Cheyenne Children Services, which has been meeting the most pressing needs of Cheyenne children and families for two decades, around their little office in Lame Deer, the reservation’s commercial and governmental center.
